The largest hailstone to fall in the U.S. weighed 1 lb, 15 oz, with a circumference of 18.62 inches.




This monstrosity crashed down in Vivian, South Dakota in July of this year. It smashed the previous hailstone record from Nebraska in 2003 as well as some unfortunate resident's roof!

The crazy part is that these measurements were taken after the resident who found it had left it in his freezer. There was a power outage, so it's likely that it melted, and was originally even bigger.
