This condition, called transposition or situs invertus, occurs approximately once in every 10,000 births! The child was born healthy and otherwise normal, but was noticeably weak. The position of all her internal organs is a mirror image of those of a normal human.
This condition does not require any sort of surgery or transplantation (many who have it do not realize their unusual anatomy until much later in life), but it can cause some complications. Doctors who are unaware can look for organs on the wrong side of an inverted body. Also, the positions of prominent blood vessels and other structures are reversed, so normal organs must be altered geometrically in order to match up with the inverted ones!
